The programme was based on design thinking. Students needed to design a mobile sensory device for junior students to encourage them to explore the school more and rediscover things they previously ignored.
Students participated in different sensory games to explore the possibilities of different senses before proceeding to design the mobile device. They worked in teams, using various devices to observe and rediscover interesting elements at their school. Each team designed a “sensory magnifier” based on the persona of the designated user, combining with their personal experience of being a junior student. A “mobile sensory device” was created by merging the “sensory magnifier” with an electric car made from unused student tables and chairs. They also designed a specific driving route to encourage their classmates to drive the “mobile sensory device” and explore different corners of the campus.
During the making process, students learnt different woodworking techniques and used various materials to finish the “mobile sensory device”. At the end of the course, the groups shared their creative process with their parents to deepen their learning outcomes. Before completion of each session, the instructors led each team in reflecting on that day's learning progress, helping students consolidate what they have learnt.
