This year's Creative Festival is themed "Kids Connect: Power Up", co-curated by PMQ Seed and Little Urban Mountain. The curatorial team converted the PMQ courtyard into four themed experiential spaces, known as "Power Stations" each with a specific theme: Health, Happiness, Friendship, and Eco.
The festival invited children between the ages of 6 and 12 to participate as "Power Buddies" and suggest activities or design experience related to the four Power Stations. We have recruited nearly 100 Power Buddies , with 9 teams are from school and 15 teams are formed by families and friends. In July, workshops were arranged for the Power Buddies at PMQ – in which our curatorial team guided the kids on how to design games or develop their creative ideas. Well before the Creative Festival was kicked off, our Power Buddies had already started preparing props and game rules, testing the games, practising their presentations, in order to get ready to welcome participants of the Creative Festival!
Even though it was hot and sometimes rainy during August 12th-20th, the nine-day Creative Festival, the Power Buddies remained enthusiastic and energetic! They actively introduced their teams' design concepts and games to the participants, and even used various languages to welcome visitors from different regions! The concurrent workshops, Summer Camp (Junior Primary): Ants Island Showcase and Mini-camp Super Bridge Showcase also demonstrated the kids’ creativity power – to imagine, create and solve problems!
This was the first time for PMQ Seed to invite kids to participate in the design and production of a public event. We hope that this had stimulated the kids' innate originality and imagination, and leaded them to join hands with their peers, exchange creative ideas, explore and practise together!
