The environmental impact of plastics can no longer be ignored. How might kids participate in the global effort to reduce plastic wastes?
Plastics are the second most common source of Hong Kong’s urban solid waste and a key area of the increasingly urgent issue of waste management. PMQ Seed 2024 themed “Kids in Action”, is all about re-examining our environment and the plastic products we find everywhere. What sort of changes can kids bring forth when they approach the problem with creative power? Their curiosity and passion for the environment will provide the perfect spark to inspire grownups to take action for our planet.
Through carrying out a series of programmes and events centred on the themes “Reduce”, “Recycle”, “Reuse”, and “Upcycle”, the PMQ Seed programme guided the kids to learn about and engage with the reduction of plastic waste from a place of empathy and creativity, transforming new ideas into real-world solutions.
Under the support of the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region as the Lead Sponsor, alongside a team of local creative professionals, we hosted a variety of programmes in 2024, including the “Creative Training Class”, “Creative Summer Festival”, “Train the Trainer Workshops” and “Seed Online”. We also exhibited at the Learning and Teaching Expo (LTE). Designed for kids aged 6-14, parents, and educators, PMQ Seed has delivered a playful series of hands-on creative challenges meant to connect knowledge and love for the planet with personal initiative.
