    Programme Content

This course is based on design thinking and empowers students to address outdoor campus shade needs by identifying sunny areas on campus and designing foldable shade installations. Thereby enhancing overall campus comfort.

The course began with experiencing prototype making through the "Miniature Folding Structure Challenge." Students used paper straws, Blue Tack, toothpicks, and awls to design and build a small bridge, testing its structural strength by measuring the number of small books it could support. Through continuous observation, testing, and adjustments, students explored methods to increase the bridge's load-bearing capacity. They not only grasped the principles of folding but also understood that design requires repeated testing and revision to achieve the desired effect. After site selection, students analysed the spatial features and empathised with the needs of different users to generate creative concepts. Students worked in groups to utilize AI as a design accelerator to generate and evaluate diverse foldable concepts, selecting the optimal solution with input from peer feedback. After learning the principles for making foldable structures, students built and tested preliminary prototypes. Finally, students assemble their final physical model using PVC pipes, connectors and tools.

Throughout the course, students tracked their learning journey on a “Progress Log,” visualising their challenges and personal growth. At the end of each lesson, the teaching team guided each group to review the day’s learning content, helping students consolidate what they have learned. In the final lesson, students presented their work, making process and reflective insights to teachers and parents.
