The course is based on design thinking, where students addressed the challenges faced by the elderly. Through studying creative movement and gerontology, they designed a jukebox that combines various tactile objects and nostalgic music to promote physical activity among the elderly and evokes their precious memories.
At the beginning of the class, students needed to empathise with the situations of the elderly through interacting with and interviewing the elderly. They were able to learn about their lives and the difficulties the elderly are facing, including physical, emotional, and cognitive needs. Then, students worked in groups to brainstorm and design a jukebox based on information gathered from interviews, aiming to address the pain points of the elderly. During the making process, students used different materials to create the jukebox and collaborated to choreograph their own dance movements. In the final class, students shared their creative outcomes and invite parents and the elderly to test the jukebox and dance together, enhancing their learning experience.
At the end of each class, the teaching team reviewed the class progress with each group to enrich the children's learning outcome.
