In today’s ever-changing world, we want to encourage kids to venture beyond the digital realm and their own classrooms, and to engage with the community in ways unique to childhood. To paraphrase renowned Italian educator Loris Malaguzzi, a child has three teachers: his/her elders, the environment, and the peers he/she grows up with. Through the process of group play, kids are able to learn social skills such as empathy and collaboration, which are essential to the practice of creativity.
In 2023, PMQ Seed carried the theme “Kids connect”—our goal was to stimulate the innate originality and imagination available to all little ones, and tapped into the power of connection amongst peers. We hope to help kids build a sense of belonging in the community through exchanging ideas, diving deep into autonomous explorations, and working together on experimental projects. We knew these extraordinary experiences will play a major part in kids’ development of foundational skills in tomorrow’s world.
With the support of Create Hong Kong of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region as the project’s lead sponsor, as well as an amazing team of creative partners, we were thrilled to announce that we would continue to host our six key programmes surrounding the themes on empathy and design thinking: “Summer Camp”, “School Outreach”, “Mini-camp”, “Creative Festival”, “Train the Trainer Workshop”, and “Seed Online”. Designed for kids aged 6-12, parents, and educators, the programmes would deliver a series of hands-on creative challenges that aimed to supercharge kids’ creative powers.
